Perceptions Blog

  • For today's class work credit, you will be writing a blog entry.  Your blog entry should take into consideration what you have done for today's class so far (the paper pass AND the "Mind the Gap" video).  It also should answer the following questions (at least 2 of them).  You should end up with a complete, long paragraph!  (8-10 sentences)

When done, post yours and reply to one other.  (Follow the discussion board criteria in the content block below this one.

    1. What might be the purpose of images/optical illusions that allow people to see two things?

    2. What might these images say about perceptions/how we see things?  How does this connect to the video we watched?

    3. Have you ever run into a situation where something did not fit with your perceptions or meet your initial expectations? (Alternatively, maybe you were the one that did not meet someone's initial impression of you.)

...here's a quick example of a possible response to only the last question (in other words, this is not a full blog post answering everything) because it might be a little confusing.  (You should still address all of the questions in your reply.)

Many people consider themselves to be either cat people or dog people.  Often, this is because of the traits we believe each animal has.  Dogs are thought of as friendlier and outgoing.  Cats are thought of as able to take care of themselves and more aloof.  However, I have a cat that many would think of as a dog.  Her name is Pinesol (yes, like the cleaner), and she loves belly rubs.  She even greets me at the door when I get home!  So much for aloof felines!  (Picture evidence is below.)
