Simile and Metaphor in Song

 Agenda:

  • Warm-up: Metaphor Practice
  • Locate 2 songs
    • Use the Billboard list if necessary
  • Complete the Journal

  • Pick one of your two songs.  (Use the other if you are having trouble completing this journal.)
  • Copy the lyrics.  Paste them here in your journal.
  • Identify examples of simile, metaphor, and personification that you can.  (If you can’t find anything, try a different song that seems more figurative or deeper.)  Copy and paste each example in a list AFTER your lyrics.  Be sure to label each of them.
  • Label any other writing strategies that you can find.  These could be parts of STICCCS or any other poetic device that you remember from other classes.  Aim to list and label at least three additional strategies.  
  • In a couple of sentences, explain how the figurative devices (simile, metaphor, personification) help to get across the artist’s point.
